Behind the Mask
Hey, there! It’s me, Caitlin!
So, you’ve found your way here through the vast expanse of the internet. That means we’re already great friends with great taste in movies. Welcome! I hope you brought popcorn.
So, what is Graveyard Watch, you ask?
Graveyard Watch, established in 2022, is a collection of horror essays, articles, and reviews intended to educate and entertain while creating a space for the community to enjoy. I’m the scream queen behind this blog. I am a lifelong horror fan and writer who created this online journal as a means of celebrating and challenging the horror genre.
My love of horror movies stemmed from early exposure to the 1980s frenzy of violent and over-the-top slashers. One of my first memories of horror consists of my older cousin making me watch scenes from “Child’s Play” when we were kids. I WAS FOUR. Yikes. No wonder I had to sleep with my stuffed animals facing the wall instead of having their beady little eyes on me.
I remember my parents letting me watch scary television with them like the “X-Files” or “Tales From the Crypt” as a child. “They’re only playing pretend,” they would assure me. “It’s always Halloween there.” This unlocked something in me I’m sure no one was prepared for. My lifelong infatuation with horror and Halloween was born. I mean, my husband and I even married on Halloween night last year. I’m dedicated to the craft.
The viewing of such depravity on-screen felt freeing, risky, and defiant. I’ve been addicted to the thrill of jump scares and morbidly curious about gross-out horror since childhood. The first paying job I ever had was as a zombie extra at a local haunted house when I was 15.
I am writing this blog to document my lifelong journey through the savage world of horror. Graveyard Watch is a means of voicing my thoughts and opinions on a genre historically dominated by cis white men and misogyny. Graveyard Watch is a labor of love from one fan of horror to another. I hope you stay awhile and find a little something that makes you smile or scream.
My name is Caitlin. And this is Graveyard Watch.
